Jquery in Sharepoint 2013

Once again .. Sharepoint dissapoints..

The same javascript works in a regular browser will not work in Sharepoint.

Followed techniques from here: http://www.sharepointhillbilly.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=16

and tried both methods of rendering javascript:

Have no idea what is wrong. I'm just trying to get a slider to work.
